Psychotherapy is the Wedding of Psyche with Love...
In the Roman tale of Amor and Psyche, beautiful Psyche must go through four tasks to be reunited with her beloved Amor, the very god of Love.
Psychotherapy as I practice it seeks to help you discover and cultivate your psyche's deepest imaginings.
Psychotherapy as we would engage in it seeks to ignite your love, help you discover and serve your creative passions, what gives you life, by finding and doing what you are called to do, and by learning how Amor inspires you.
Psychotherapy is the sacred initiatory vessel in which we would create the conditions in which your psyche joyfully weds with your love.
When life becomes rote, stuck, and lifeless, your psyche needs igniting imagination to enrich and expand your life, love needs to light your heart's torch so you can find your individuating way, and your tasks need to be made full of creativity and purpose, heartfulness and meaning, through your expanding capacity to love! Then you will be invited to the wedding of Amor and Psyche within!
If you wish, and if they authorize and grace us, I will accompany you there!
The Holy Longing
Tell a wise person, or else keep silent,
because the mass man will mock it right away.
I praise what is truly alive,
what longs to be burned to death.
In the calm water of the love-nights,
where you were begotten, where you have begotten,
a strange feeling comes over you,
when you see the silent candle burning.
Now you are no longer caught in the obsession with darkness,
and a desire for higher love-making sweeps you upward.
Distance does not make you falter.
Now, arriving in magic, flying,
and finally, insane for the light,
you are the butterfly and you are gone.
And so long as you haven't experienced this: to die and so to grow, you are only a troubled guest on the dark earth.
-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Translated from the German by Robert Bly
